Basically, you will need a homeowner’s policy, similar to the one you have for your actual home. However, if you intend to rent it out as well as using it yourself, you might need to look at whether a policy geared to landlords is more appropriate. Bear in mind that you will have strangers in the house. Depending on how you intend to market the house that could involve quite a broad range of people.

You also need to plan how you manage your possessions to cater for both your own use and your tenants. Perhaps you can keep a locked room or basement space that is secured, where you keep personal items that are put away when you leave, and are not available for tenants. You also need to think about administering the vacation rental – who keeps the key, how will payments be made, who does the cleaning?

Take some time and speak with your agent about your home insurance Woodland Hills. It is close enough to the coast that you could have a place not too far from home for yourselves, and also somewhere that could appeal to the vacation market.
